DAY ONE - Wedneday, March 2, 2011 - Anchorage: When you arrive in Anchorage, a 24 hour free shuttle will pick you up from the airport and take you to your Hotel. These great accommodations are downtown so you will be in walking distance of many of the Anchorage attractions and quaint local shops. Explore the city at your leisure. Check out the many festivities during the ongoing annual Fur Rendezvous with: Native Arts Market, Theater Show, Winter Carnival Activities, Snow Sculpturing Competition, Snowshoe Softball Matches and Firework Displays while the city gears for the Iditarod Race over the weekend. Saturday, March 5, 2011  Start of the Iditarod Race / Anchorage: The famous Iditarod Race starts in Alaska's largest city, in Anchorage at 10:00 am on 4th. Avenue. Your tour guides will be getting you up early, so you're not to miss any of the preprations. Make sure to bring your cameras, You will be able to take up close pictures of your favorite mushers and dog teams. With over 80 mushers and 1000 sled dogs lined up, ready to leave shortly from the starting line for the famous "1049 mile race to Nome". After the start of the race, we will be heading towards Wasilla. We will be stopping off at the Iditarod Headquarter and Museum in Wasilla. Make sure to check out all the many Iditarod memorabilia that the museum has to offer. Overnight lodging Wasilla at Alaska's Lake Lucille Bed & Breakfast. Meals Provided: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

DAY TWO -

Day Two: Thursday, March 3, 2011 - Anchorage / Mushers Banquet: Your guides will pick you up and your tour continues as you see some of the sites of Anchorage; Wild berry Farms, Ulu Factory, Alaska Fur Company, downtown Anchorage, and the native arts and crafts show at the Dimond Center Mall. All these are great places to pick up some Alaska souvenirs. We will then attend the musher’s banquet this evening.

You will be transfered to the Dena’ina Center for your exciting evening entertainment: the Musher’s Banquet, Drawing and Dinner. The dresscode for the evening is casual. Vegetarian meals available upon request. The doors open at 5:00 pm and dinner will begin at 6:00 pm. This is a must for anyone interested to see “The Last Great Race on Earth” for the first time. There will be plenty of photo opportunities and chances to meet and talk with some Iditarod Musher’s personally. Overnight lodging in Wasilla, at Alaska's Lake Lucille B & B. Meals Provided: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner.

DAY THREEDay Three: Friday, March 4, 2011 - Willow / Vern Halter's Kennel: After breakfast we head towards Willow. Today you will experience half day of dog mushing knowledge and history before we return you to Anchorage. You will be visiting with Iditarod veteran Vern Halter's kennel. Vern Halter's presentation will include a demonstration of survival gear, mushing requirements, and an extended sled dog ride. Bring your camera and your questions. After lunch, we're headed towards the Iditarod Museum, then back to Anchorage for the evening to the Auction and Dinner at the Millennium Hotel / Host Hotel for the Iditarod. Overnight lodging in Wasilla, at Alaska's Lake Lucille B & B. Meals Provided: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner.

DAY FIVE Sunday, March 6, 2011 - Anchorage / Iditarod Re-Start Race in Willow: After breakfast, we will travel north towards to Willow for the offical restart ceremony. The re-start takes place on a frozen lake in Willow. There will be crafts and displays set up inside of the Willow Community Center, you can observe volunteers settings up for the race, and see the mushers arrive. If it is a clear day you can see Mt. McKinley from here. The race will begin at 2:00 pm. Enjoy the busy and bustling Iditarod race atmosphere. View the musher’s final preparation for the famous final 1049-mile trip throughout Alaska’s backcountry to the finishing line in Nome, Alaska. Overnight lodging Wasilla at Alaska's Lake Lucille Bed & Breakfast. Meals Provided: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

DAY SIX

Monday, March 7, 2011 Anchorage, Girdwood, Wildlife Conservation Center: Your guides will pick you up and your tour continues as you travel south of Anchorage along Turnagain Arm to the mountain community of Girdwood where you will ride the Alyeska Resort Aerial Tramway.The Aerial Tramway is a seven-minute ride that brings you to a viewing deck. The viewing area provides some of the most breathtaking views of mountains, glaciers, and wildlife. After lunch, your tour continue to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center on the shores of Cook Inlet in Portage. The center is dedicated to preserving Alaska's wildlife and takes in injured and orphaned animals year-round and provides them with spacious enclosures and quality animal care. Animals that cannot be released into the wild are given a permanent home at the center. 

Return to Anchorage for 8:00 pm or later departures or overnight Anchorage lodging for the next day departure, or optional flights watching the musher's on the trail.

As we bring you back to Anchorage to connect with your flights we hope that you have enjoyed your tour of Alaska and have a safe return home.
